Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy is what people generally think of as ‘normal’ or ‘standard’ physiotherapy treatment, i.e. General Physiotherapy, e.g. back pain, neck pain, rehab after injury etc.
We approach this work with a bigger picture in mind and will not only assist with your current issue, but teach you how to prevent and /or manage it in the long term.
WHAT IS IT?
General Physiotherapy
General or Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy involves assessment and treatment of components to the musculoskeletal system – muscles, bones, joints, ligaments and tendons. People will often present with pain or with a functional limitation, such as limited range of movement often reported as “stiffness,” or reduced strength commonly called “weakness.”
WHO NEEDS GENERAL PHYSIOTHERAPY?
Who does it affect?
Musculoskeletal issues can occur for anyone at any time. Common factors that can increase the risk of musculoskeletal issues are:
- Sedentary lifestyle
- Static positioning, such as sitting and standing for extended periods
- Repetitive movements
- Traumatic injury e.g. Fractures, dislocations, strains and sprains
HOW IS IT TREATED?
Based on assesment
Musculoskeletal injuries are treated based on assessment findings. Your concern will generally be categorised as a movement or control dysfunction, and a treatment plan will be devised according to this. Treatment often includes manual therapy, such as massage and manipulation, dry needling and exercise prescription.
